At the beginning of November, popular Stony Stratford Watercolourist Nicky Hunter, who currently holds an exhibition at Skills, invited Cambridgeshire watercolourist Ian McManus, of the Institute of East Anglian Artists (IEA) to Stony Stratford to discuss a sketch and painting project of the High Street. The meet up was a great success with the fine weather, so sketches were made this same day. Ian’s finished painting is now on show in our window display. It really captures the morning light and atmosphere in the town. His technique is one which is confident in it’s use of brushwork and colour. Please visit to take a closer look at Ian’s fine work alongside Nicky’s lovely paintings on display. Alongside Ian’s High Street Stroll we have Nicky’s the beautiful painting of the Summer House with Ouse river view and there are many more original watercolours, oils and gouache by a variety of Artists, local and National, available in store.

Ian McManus IEA is one of the UK’s finest exponents in the medium of watercolour. He was chosen as one of ten guest artists to feature and teach at the ‘Youyu International Watercolour Event’ in China and has his work pre-selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI).

Nicky Hunter’s radiant artworks capture ‘realism with a touch of romance’ in a colourful, expressive style. Her painting and illustration skill set is diverse, and love for painting florals and organic subjects influenced by designing print patterns for interiors and fashion for over 2 decades. Styles range from refined botanical floral studies and graphical illustrations to vibrant, and often large scale, watercolour artworks; the latter being what she is best known for and brings her and the viewer the most joy. Using the illusive painting medium of watercolours Nicky creates paintings that radiate with colour and light and capture the essence of the bloom, bird, landscape or other subject matter.
